I began by digitally tracing the existing letters and then using them in other words to try to find the system within S-O-C-K. Outside of it having negative side bearings and round forms, it wasn’t clear how the other letters would look. I added a H in to see how straight sided letters need to be handled and to have my control characters (H,O) fleshed out. It became instantly clear that the top of the letters have to pinch a bit so that they’re distinguishable in a word or block of text. I had to use some alternate forms for T, Y, and E. F and P are a little wild on their own but some concessions needed to made for the top heavy forms to work in this setting.
