The Town Car's second generation was created between 1985 and 1989 with the codename FN36, costing US$650 million, and overseen by project manager John Jay.
The Lincoln Town Car, a full-size luxury sedan manufactured by Lincoln from 1981 to 1997, represented the fourth generation of the Town Car and was constructed on the Panther platform. Offered in two trim levels, Signature and Executive, the Town Car was equipped with a 4.6-liter V8 engine generating 140 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 10 seconds and reaching a top speed of 100 mph, the Town Car garnered favor among luxury car buyers for its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and extensive list of standard features. Additionally, the Town Car was a popular choice for limousine conversions.
